About the Competition

For over two decades, the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has been relentless in its mission to promote "ageing in place". To harness the creativity of young people, along with their technological expertise and gerontological knowledge, HKHS organised the inaugural “Gerontech Competition” in 2020/21. This aim was to spur the creation of products that can enhance the quality of life for the elderly, thereby injecting new momentum into the development of age-friendly solutions and the gerontechnology industry.

The Competition consisted of two rounds. In the first round, participating teams gained an understanding of the competition theme by taking part in various activities, followed by the submission of preliminary designs. Shortlisted teams from Round 1 then proceeded to Round 2, in which they received advice from professionals and participated in elderly visits to learn more about their needs, in order to enhance the practicality of their entries.
